Employment and Skills Strategies in Southeast Asia, OECD report The Southeast Asian region has experienced some of the highest growth rates in the world, with investments in skills playing a significant role in helping national economies to adjust to changes in working practices, advances in technology, and challenges associated with globalisation. In some countries this process has been more successfully managed and significant advances have been achieved in growth rates and employment levels, but in others it has resulted in stagnation of economic sectors, underemployment, rising unemployment levels and social exclusion for large sections of society. The tools that are available for governments to manage change must be capable of responding to the new opportunities posed by globalisation, yet at the same time address domestic challenges associated with demographic shifts in population, increased urbanisation and the informalisation of labour markets. The present report explores these complex issues and identifies the main constraints facing employment growth in the region, and through an analysis of existing strategies identifies which have been the most successful at generating sustainable employment.
Innovative Cooperative Training This source book is filled with an eclectic pool of tools, resources, ideas, information and principles that encourage innovation and entrepreneurship amongst those involved with cooperative development. It aims to change the way we think about training in the cooperative context. It seeks to introduce innovation in cooperatives through helping trainers become more innovative themselves. Local Economic Development Network of African (LEDNA) A new one stop shop for local economic development information and networking, and which gives access to free, peer checked LED knowledge and to local economic development networks in Africa and globally. The online platform comprises resources on the concept of LED, guidelines on “how to make LED work†and examples of best practice, listed by region or by thematic area. ICT4LED The initiative for this blog was born out of a comment in a resource entry of the platform. We are living in the era of the Knowledge Economy, Information and Communication Technologies, ICTs for Development, User-Created Content, and infinite other codes that describe the phenomenon. But who benefits, and how? How can ICTs help institutions, students or entreprenueurs of young SMEs in remote places, what simpler techonologies can we turn into tools for success, what role for local governments in confronting the digital divide, etc?
